aluminum boat project
1. REWRITE THE STANDARD IN YOUR OWN WORDS. HOW DOES THE ASSIGNMENT RELATE TO THE STANDARD? |
Standard: 8a. I know density is mass per unit volume.
Standard: 8b. I know how to calculate the density of substances from measurements of mass and volume. This standard means that I know DMV which is the formula for finding the density, volume, or mass. This assignment relates to the standard because we had to calculate all 3 things to see if my aluminum boat will foat or not. |
2. WHAT STEPS DID YOU TAKE TO COMPLETE THE ASSIGNMENT?
At first, my teammates and I made a boat out of aluminum foil. Then, we measured it with the ruler. We needed to find the length, width, and height to find the volume. We also weighed it on a scale to find the boats mass. After that, we found the density without the washers by d=m/v. Lastly, we measured how many washers our boats can hold. Finally, we measured the density of the boat with the washers.

3. This assignment demonstrates the following strengths...
This assignment demonstrates that I can calculate the density, volume, mass. It also demonstrates that I can make a boat and also make it balance it water. Another strength is that I can calculate if the boat is going to float or sink.
4. I could have improved my work on this assignment by...
I could have improved my work on this assignment by making the boat more balanced and more bigger to hold more washers. The boat was also super thin so I could have improved on that, too.
5. How will you apply the skills you learned from this assignment in the real world, as an adult or in other classes while you are still a student?
This skill can be applied in the real world by using this to find a density of an object to see if it will float or not. This also may be used to teach other kids to find out if the object will float or sink.
